The easiest way to increase battery life on iOS 5

Battery life on iOS 5 has been a big letdown for both iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S users alike. As Apple continues to work on a solution, there is a quick and easy way to help increase your battery life.

So, what’s the trick? Turn off lock screen notifications for push notifications. One of the biggest additions to iOS 5 is the way iOS handles notifications, especially for the Mail app. In previous iOS versions, e-mails were limited to an alert sound, and nothing more. With iOS 5, e-mails are treated as any other push alert, giving you the option to have notifications show up on your lock screen.

With each alert turning your device’s screen on, it’s going to drain your Dell gw240 laptop battery. While eliminating some lock screen notifications may not be an across-the-board fix, it will increase your battery life.

You can turn off lock screen notifications app by app in four steps:

1. Open the Settings app on your iOS device.

1. Scroll down to the list of apps and select any app. For this post we will use Mail as an example.

1. Scroll to the bottom of the screen, where you will find “View in Lock Screen.” Tap on the toggle switch to turn lock screen notifications off.

Go through your list of apps in the Notifications section and turn off lock screen notifications for any app that you feel doesn’t need immediate attention when you receive an alert.

When you unlock your device, any notifications not shown to your lock screen will scroll through at the top of your screen as well as be listed in the Notification tray.

Let’s be honest, getting a ton of notifications pushed to your lock screen is a huge distraction anyway. Cutting back on the amount of information that gets pushed to your screen will not only help improve your Dell inspiron 9400 laptop battery life, but you will be more productive by not having the temptation to look at your phone every time a friend’s check-in gets pushed to your device.
